Course Overview
A Security Officer’s role involves safeguarding people and property against unauthorised access, destruction, theft, assault, or disorder. As they help prevent crime, they are considered part of the wider police family. To work as a Security Officer, you need an SIA license, which can be obtained after completing this 4-day training course and passing the required exams.
A licensed SIA Security Officer can work in places such as Retail Security, Corporate Security, and non-alcohol licensed events.

Important Prerequisite
It is mandatory for all applicants to have a valid **Emergency First Aid at Work** qualification (or equivalent) that is valid for at least one year before enrolling in this course.
Course Units
The course runs over 4 days and is divided into 3 units, including a practical assessment (approx. 15 mins per learner).
Unit 1: Principles of working in the private security industry
Unit 2: Principles of working as a Security Officer in the private security industry
Unit 3: Application of conflict management in the private security industry
What does it take?
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Pass a basic level English test.
- Provide a valid Biometric Residence Permit (BRP).
- Provide Proof of ID (e.g., GP letter, P60/P45, utility bill, bank statement, NI letter) no more than 3 months old.
Assessment Details
Each unit concludes with an assessment to ensure you have met the required standard.

- MCQ: 72 questions, 1h 50m, 70% pass mark
- Practical: Evidential Statement, 100% pass mark
